Israeli-born New York based guitarist Gilad Hekselman is known for his sound that is uniquely progressive and timeless. His new album ‘Far Star’, to be released in May 2022, is brimming with playful inventiveness and originality: rich in colour, limitless in detail and bold in vision. It was this sound that drew Dave Stapleton, Edition’s Founder & CEO, to the project:
“In an ever changing world, our music has to offer something unpredictable with bold intent and strong vision. Of course, I was well aware of Gilad and his music so I was naturally excited to listen to his new album. From the opening of the first track, I was immediately struck by its originality. It was both adventurous and accessible – a hallmark of all of his music. I was instantly hooked and knew we had to help bring this project to life. I love discovering music that exceeds all expectations. This was one of those albums.” – Dave Stapleton
For Gilad, Far Star is an album that seeks a new universe of exploration:
“At the start of 2020, I returned from 3 months with my family in Southeast Asia with piles of new music ready to be played with real people. Then the pandemic hit, and suddenly all I was left with for making this music come to life were my instruments, mics and computer.
Like everyone else, I didn’t know how long this was going to last, so I started a folder on my computer called ‘Song Demos’ with every hope that I would soon be sending the tracks to my band when it came time to make a new record. Weeks turned into months: I watched hundreds of tutorials, took sound engineering lessons and consulted with my producer friends. After thousands of hours of work, I finished what I called Far Star. I sent the masters to Dave and within days, Edition grabbed it with the kind of enthusiasm that made it clear they were the right match for the record.
Far Star is about my ability to travel with my imagination to far sonic galaxies, all from the insides of a room. The music, worked on during a pandemic, somehow leaves me with memories of great freedom and liberation through what was clearly a very constricting time in our lives.” – Gilad Hekselman
Far Star is due for release in May 2022, with the launch concert at the Village Vanguard from 29th March – 3rd April 2022.
