Edition Records is pleased to announce the signing of the Belgian band N∆BOU by trombonist and composer Nabou Claerhout, an artist quickly becoming one of the rising stars of the European scene. With a new album due in 2026, this collaboration marks a significant next step for a musician who has a bold vision and distinctive voice as an instrumentalist and composer.
Nabou’s connection with Edition goes back to a formative moment in 2018.
“It feels almost surreal to say this, but N∆BOU’s new album will finally see the light of day in 2026. We honestly can’t wait to share this music with the world. Back in 2018, during my exchange at the Royal Academy of Music in London, we had a workshop with Dave Stapleton. At the time, I had absolutely no idea what a record label really was or what it could mean for an artist’s journey — but I remember how he vividly spoke with such passion about what a label can stand for. That moment stayed with me. Now, seven years later, to be releasing our next album under the wings of Edition Records, feels like coming full circle. It’s not just a girl’s dream come true – it’s an honour. To stand among such a powerful roster of musical heroes we’ve looked up to for so long still feels a little unreal. We secretly can’t quite believe it… but we are so ready to dive in and give it our all.”
Edition founder Dave Stapleton adds:
“Edition has always existed to support and amplify an artist’s vision – to give them the space and backing to grow on their own terms. Nabou Claerhout has already achieved so much and now they are perfectly placed to further her audience on the international stage. As a team, we’re excited to help her realise that next chapter.”
Nabou’s music has earned widespread acclaim for its originality and sonic depth. With her quartet N∆BOU, she released the EP Hubert in 2019 and the full-length You Know in 2021, both praised for their forward-thinking approach. She has performed with artists including Robin Eubanks, Jim Black and Ellen Arkbro, and in 2023 released Trombone Ensemble Nabou Claerhout on W.E.R.F. Records – a bold, large-scale project featuring five trombones and special guest Robin Eubanks. She currently teaches and mentors at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
N∆BOU joins an already existing roster of some of the most innovative and forward-thinking artists in contemporary jazz, including Chris Potter, Fergus McCreadie, Gretchen Parlato, and Nils Petter Molvær.
