Since 2013 Cardiff-based Slowly Rolling Camera have carved a path for themselves as one of the rising stars of the European jazz scene. Their heavy grooves, unleashed hooks and extremely emotional contrasts has become a hallmark of their epic sound.

Slowly Rolling Camera, based in Cardiff, Wales, with a decade dedicated to honing their sound and production values, emerges as one of the most enigmatic and undiscovered treasures in the UK’s vibrant music scene. Led by musicians Dave Stapleton, Deri Roberts, and Elliot Bennett, the band defies genre boundaries and commands a formidable global following. Since its formation in 2013, Slowly Rolling Camera embarked on a mission to create a distinct fusion of musical styles, drawing inspiration from jazz, cinematic soundscapes, and electronic production values. Blending “the way jazz and trip-hop merge into their music”, as hailed by Deutschland Radio, they “showcase genius in their compositions”.

With echoes of the cinematic grandeur reminiscent of The Cinematic Orchestra, their intricate jazz-infused arrangements akin to GoGo Penguin, and the atmospheric beauty found in the works of Ólafur Arnalds, Slowly Rolling Camera captivates listeners with their captivating style and continues to push the boundaries of sonic innovation. The Guardian has hailed them as a powerful newcomer with Rising Star written all over it, emphasising their superb talent. As described by Crack Magazine, their music is “a jazzed-up nu-soul affair, stuffed with orchestral sweeps, Bristol-style trip-hop, and ethereal drum and bass rhythms”.

Since their inception, Slowly Rolling Camera has consistently pushed the boundaries of their genre, evolving and refining their sound with each release. Their self-titled debut album, unveiled in 2014, showcased their ability to intricately weave compositions and emotive performances into a cohesive musical tapestry. It’s no wonder Deutschland Radio described their music as “genius, as their artistic brilliance shines through”.

In 2016, Slowly Rolling Camera followed up with “All Things,” further solidifying their reputation for crafting captivating sonic landscapes. The album seamlessly blended soulful melodies, jazz-infused harmonies, and electronic elements, resonating deeply with listeners and garnering critical acclaim.

“Juniper,” released in 2018, marked another milestone in Slowly Rolling Camera’s musical journey. The album ventured into new sonic territories, pushing the boundaries of their, this time fully-instrumental sound while maintaining the signature elements that made them unique. With its evocative melodies and rich textures, “Juniper” solidified their position as true innovators in the realm of contemporary jazz and electronic music, receiving high praise from media and press alike.

Their latest release, “Where the Streets Lead” in 2021, showcased Slowly Rolling Camera’s continued growth and maturity as a band. The album expanded their sonic palette with mesmerising string writing, incorporating elements of trip-hop, ambient, and world music into their distinctive blend. Critics and publications have hailed their compositions as superb, recognizing their ability to create immersive soundscapes

Now, building upon their previous successes, Slowly Rolling Camera is set to release their highly anticipated album, “Flow,” on Edition Records. “Flow” takes their hallmark emotive and cinematic soundscapes to new heights, inviting listeners on a mesmerising and hypnotic musical journey. Written originally for the film ‘River of Mirrors,‘ the album showcases Slowly Rolling Camera’s ability to blend their emotive and cinematic sound with a more minimalist, hypnotic, and spiritual approach. Augmented by the sublime talents of saxophonist Josh Arcoleo, trumpeter Verneri Pohjola, and guitarist Stuart McCallum, “Flow” is a testament to the band’s boundless creativity and unwavering commitment to their craft.
