“One of the most vital and creative new ensembles in the UK today…”

DINOSAUR is one of the most vital and creative new ensembles in Europe today. Led by BBC New Generation Artist 2015 – 2107, trumpeter and composer Laura Jurd, Dinosaur, featuring star keyboardist Elliot Galvin and the exciting young rhythm section of Conor Chaplin and Corrie Dick, are described by All About Jazz as ‘a new British Jazz supergroup’.

In Sept 2016, Dinosaur released ‘Together, As One’ on Edition Records to widespread critical acclaim including a rare 5 star review from The Guardian, characterising the music, written by Laura Jurd, as ‘impressionistic electric-jazz moodiness seamlessly wrapped around Celtic folk melodies’ whilst All About Jazz, described the album ‘as one of the best debut albums for years’.

In Oct 2016, the quartet appeared on the front cover of Jazzwise Magazine in Oct 2016 prompting a wave of praise and acclaim from the international media including Jazzthing Magazine, Jazzthetic and Gilles Peterson. Bringing together a remarkable fusion of thoughtful compositions, skilful musicianship and visceral energy, this music is both formidable and utterly compelling.

With almost six years of touring including performances at the Berlin Jazz Festival, Jazz Sur Son 31 in Toulouse, 12 Points in Dublin and Jazzahead in Bremen, Dinosaur are set to ignite a glowing international career with tours in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France and Belgium already confirmed in 2017.

‘Imagine the impressionistic electric-jazz moodiness and glistening keyboard textures of Miles Davis’s In A Silent Way seamlessly wrapped around Celtic folk melodies, Django Batesian idiom-swaps, and interwoven with American, Scottish and north African drumming – and you might have a feel for this superb set from Laura Jurd, the young trumpeter who has made such an impact on UK jazz over four packed years’ ★★★★★ Guardian

‘Apparently there’s a jazz revival going on! Here’s Dinosaur…let’s just call it social music.’ BBC 6 Music

‘Laura Jurd ranks with his trumpet playing as one of the most exciting young trumpet players in Europe right now’ JAZZNYT (DK)

“Dinosaur’s debut album, ‘Together, As One’, is a project that has really piqued my interest. If you love jazz Dinosaur is one viable and dynamic creature that cultivates the genre’s history while ranging curiously through all kinds of other genres.” POLITIKEN NEWSPAPER (DK)

“…a powerfully inventive young quartet…Tonally vivid, the players dart deftly, jubilantly and occasionally bemusingly between tempi and idioms, trumpet bellings or Milesian rasps suddenly giving way to chiming, bubbling keyboards.” THE SCOTSMAN (UK)

“Apparently there’s a jazz revival going on! Here’s Dinosaur…let’s just call it social music.” BBC 6 MUSIC GILLES PETERSON (UK/INTERNATIONAL)

“Eclectic in the best sense. Laura Jurd is a musician to watch.” LIRA MAGAZINE (SWEDEN)

“Trumpeter and composer Jurd is part of a new generation of musicians comfortably moving between the mainstream and the avant garde, and her compositions reflect that, fusing jazz rock with folk, electronics and modern composition.” THE QUIETUS (UK)

“Dinosaur is Jurd’s latest ensemble vehicle, and arguably her most integrated and well honed project to date. Joining her in this intimate but outward looking electric ensemble are playful and quirky keyboardist Elliott Galvin, bassist Conor Chaplin and Blue Eyed Hawk drummer Corrie Dick. This is a serious, impressive group of musicians with a very strong musical connection…an intriguing mix executed with agility and a strong sense of energy and forward motion throughout.” MUSIC OMH (UK)

“Although it may win awards, Together, As One doesn’t come across as a self-consciously ‘award winning album’: the production is understated, the performances are straightforwardly good and no-one is trying too hard to impress, which makes it all the more impressive.”  LONDON JAZZ (UK)

“This is very good indeed with innovative rhythmic patterns and combinations. Miles would be proud.” HIFI WORLD (UK)

‘Surely rank as one of the best debut albums for years, a remarkable fusion of thoughtful compositions, skilful musicianship and visceral energy. ALL ABOUT JAZZ (UK)

“Led by the prodigiously talented 25 year old trumpeter and composer Laura Jurd Dinosaur are a highly accomplished 21st century fusion act, folding folk and electronic elements into jazz rock structures…a promising debut…” THE WIRE (UK)

“All eight tracks were written by Jurd, demonstrating her exceptional talent of combining technical skill with emotional warmth.  These arrangements would feel at home alongside David Bowie’s Blackstar, or Guillemots at their most avant-garde.  Dinosaur are a tight band.  Each instrument supports all the others, holding the music in place just when you think it might run off the stave altogether.  Together, As One, indeed.” MOOKYCHICK (UK)

“An insistent keyboard motif underpins the lively “Living, Breathing” with its alternately bright and brooding trumpet, fluid bass grooves and crisp, inventive drumming. On occasion the four musicians coalesce with some stunning, brilliantly executed ensemble riffing. The overall effect of the piece is both impressive and invigorating…This is an album worth working at and sticking with…” THE JAZZMANN (UK)

“…before us is a piece of vinyl of infectious beauty and attractiveness which is very difficult to put down.” JAZZIN (SERBIA)

“In jazz, men are usually the bandleaders. The 26-year-old Laura Jurd is the exception: in the group “Dinosaur” she gives the trumpet the tone…Laura Jurd – a musician with potential, which is always redefined.” SWITZERLAND RADIO (CH)

“An album needs to end with the listener knowing that they have heard a well-produced, creative, satisfying piece of work. This does. Laura Jurd is a talented trumpet player and composer and together as one with Elliot Galvin, Conor Chaplin and Corrie Dick I think the band is outstanding. Dinosaur’s Together, As One is highly recommended.” SANDY BROWN JAZZ (UK)

“Rechristening her regular quintet Dinosaur gave fair notice of their thrilling power live, where they’re as likely to fly into souful Sly Stone or JB’s terrain. Their debut album, though, is a considered studio production, with a sense of space and shape…” JAZZWISE (UK)
